On the way back from LUGTR2011, Istanbul, Turkey

I’m in the lounge at Istanbul Atatürk Airport, waiting for my flight back home to Hamburg.
From my point of view LUGTR2011 was a success: I had several very good talks with potential customers for YouAtNotes Workflow, I met interesting people who are interested to provide local services for YouAtNotes Software and a lot people thanked me personally for providing the xpageswiki.com 🙂
It’s very good to hear that people are actually using the xpageswiki.com and that it’s helpful!

Beside that, I really enjoyed visiting Istanbul again. My hotel was the perfect choice, located right at the Taksim place in the heart of the city. The Metro was right in front of the hotel, there were many, many, many restaurants and shops and so on, there was an incredible life going on in the streets and my room was in the 16th floor with a incredible view to the Bosphorus.

I did not had that much time to walk around, but I breathed some Istanbul life at the evenings and today I wandered from Taksim place to the Golden Horn and took a taksi (cab) from there to the airport. Luckily I already know the must-have tourist places from my last visit to Istanbul back in 2004 (Ed, I hope you can see the great bazar next time, it’s well worth it).

Here are some photos:

Extra charge for Internet Explorer compatiblity

Note: this post has been migrated from another blog. Some links may be broken.

Jim nailed it down in his comment to my story about Internet Explorer problems: the fact that Microsoft is unable to do things right with Internet Explorer costs customers money. A lot of money.

And due to our own experiences with Internet Explorer, we will require an extra charge for Internet Explorer compatibility with web projects in the future.

In fact, we always placed some extra time for browser compatibility optimizations in our internal calculations. But in the future, we will tell our customers: if you want to use your intranet application with Internet Explorer, it will cost you a noticable amount of money extra. And for your internet project you have no choice to support Internet Explorer, but it costs you a lot of extra money, too. No, please don’t complain to us, complain to Microsoft for being unable to get basic things right.
