Forced to migrate from Lotus Notes to Exchange, here is what the customer said after a year

Some years ago, we migrated a german branch of an US based company from OpenExchange to Lotus Notes. They were happy with Notes and therefore implemented a set of applications to cover business critical processes.
Then about a year ago the US mothership ordered them to migrate to Exchange and the apps to Salesforce. Some days ago we had contact with the CTO of that german branch and he said only one thing about the migration: "If we only would have been stayed with Lotus Notes!!" (I hope it's translated correctly from german: "Wären doch wir bloß bei Notes geblieben!!") So, again, we see that a migration is not that easy and leads to massive costs and business problems. But unfortunately, we all know that this is irrelevant for these kind of descisions :-( Nevertheless it's nice to hear that we were right, whatever that's worth for.

Hello Julian, It's an interesting quote but what made them arrive at that conclusion? Was it just the cost? Have any of the 'legacy' applications been successfully migrated to SalesForce? Is the mail experience worse under Exchange? Is Outlook just another client they have to open as well as the browser, and the Notes client for 'legacy' apps? 2)

Now it is not unusual when the loser in a forced migration feels unhappy with such a decision. So more interesting would be the position of the US headquarter. I would not be surprised if they have a completely different view on the current situation. But indeed a nice story. Thank you for sharing it. 3)

Jason, Hennig, sorry I can't share more information about that. I think US headquarters will have a different view, sure they will, because they don't experience all those problems. Nevertheless it one more proof point that such kind of migration is often a waste of time and money. 4)
